To calculate and assess the total sum for the Wells' score used to stratify the risk of DVT.

The Wells’ DVT criteria can be used in outpatient as well as emergency department settings and should be applied after a thorough history and physical examination, resulting in a suspicion of DVT. The score is generated based on the following criteria: - active cancer (No 0point, Yes 1point) - paralysis, paresis, or recent plaster immobilisation of the legs (No 0point, Yes 1point) - bedridden recently ≥3 days or major surgery within 12 weeks (No 0point, Yes 1point) - localized tenderness along the deep venous system (No 0point, Yes 1point) - entire leg swollen (No 0point, Yes 1point) - calf swelling more than 3 cm compared to the other leg (No 0point, Yes 1point) - pitting oedema (No 0point, Yes 1point) - collateral (nonvaricose) superficial veins (No 0point, Yes 1point) - previously documented DVT(No 0point, Yes 1point) - alternative diagnosis to DVT at least as likely (No 0point, Yes -2point) The total score is calculated by adding the points of the individual variables. Interpretation is as follows: - Wells' score <=0, Risk group Low/unlikely - Wells' score 1-2, Risk group Moderate - Wells' score >=3, Risk group High/likely

Not to be used in hospitalized patients. This guideline should not be used to estimate the Well’s criteria for pulmonary embolism
