Use to calculate the score for the Simplified Finnegan Neonatal Abstinence Scoring Tool (sFNAS). The sFNAS is a simplified 10-item version of the original 21-item Finnegan Neonatal Abstinence Scoring Tool (FNAS). The parameters evaluate central nervous system, autonomic and gastrointestinal signs of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). The sFNAS score is designed to be compared overtime through continuous monitoring every 3 to 4 hours. The recommendation to start pharmacological treatment is given if the following is registered: - Three consecutive scores of 6 or greater, - Two consecutive scores of 10 or greater.

Use only in neonatal patients when there is maternal drug abuse as shown by history or toxicology. Use to measure and analyse the presence of signs every 3 to 4 hours.

Not to be used in neonatal patients without maternal drug abuse.
