To calculate the score for the PAS for RA.

The PAS is a composite index of disease activity status that combines the Health Assessment Questionnaire-DI (HAQ-DI), a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain (0-10) and a Patient Global Assessment of Disease Activity scale (0-10). The PAS evaluates activities within eight categories: Dressing and grooming, Arising, Eating, Walking, Hygiene activities, Reaching, Gripping and opening things, and Errands and chores. HAQ-DI evaluates the degree of difficulty to perform an activity (0-Without difficulty to 3-Unable) and the use of aid devices or people to perform them (0-No or 1-Yes). For the HAQ-DI, if patient uses any aids or devices and/or requires help from another person for any given category, the score for that category is adjusted upward to 2. If the categorical score (the highest score within the elements of the category) is already ≥2, the score remains unchanged. The PAS is calculated by this formula: (A x 3.33 + B + C) / 3, where: - A = Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index (HAQ-DI), calculated by the average of the categorical scores of each subcategory, - B = Pain Visual Analog Scale (VAS), - C = Patient Global Assessment of Disease Activity. The interpretation of the PAS should be as follows: - Disease activity is Remission (0.00-0.25 score), - Disease activity is Low/minimal (0.26-3.70 score), - Disease activity is Moderate (3.71-7.99 score), - Disease activity is High/severe (8.00-10.00 score).

PAS cannot be used for patients for whom treatment changed because of side effects since disease activity status is indeterminate.\nPAS can only be used for patients with diagnosed Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).
