To apply Rome IV criteria for diagnosing functional diarrhea in infants, ensuring appropriate reassurance to caregivers and avoiding unnecessary interventions.

Use in Infants aged 6 to 60 months presenting with chronic, watery diarrhea in the absence of malabsorption, infection, or systemic illness. The clinician assesses the patient against the following Rome IV criteria: Daily painless, recurrent watery stools occurring three or more times per day. Symptoms persist for more than four weeks. No evidence of failure to thrive, weight loss, nutritional deficiencies, or systemic illness. No identifiable infectious or inflammatory cause on laboratory and stool studies.

Not to be used for diagnosing acute gastroenteritis, food allergies, or malabsorptive syndromes (e.g., celiac disease, cystic fibrosis).
