Applies the Ottawa Ankle Rule based on recorded clinical findings to determine if an ankle X-ray series and/or a foot X-ray series is indicated.

To determine the need for radiography in acute ankle and midfoot injuries based on the Ottawa Ankle Rule

Patient presents with acute ankle or midfoot pain following trauma. Perform physical examination following Ottawa Ankle Rule criteria. Order radiographs only if one or more of the following apply: Ankle X-ray indications: Bone tenderness at the posterior lateral malleolus. Bone tenderness at the posterior medial malleolus. Inability to bear weight immediately and take four steps. Foot X-ray indications: Bone tenderness at the base of the 5th metatarsal. Bone tenderness at the navicular bone. Inability to bear weight immediately and take four steps.

Should not be applied in pediatric patients (<18 years). Not suitable for patients with polytrauma, intoxication, or altered mental status. Not applicable if required input data is missing.
