Evaluates the impact of fatigue in patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis or systemic lupus erythematosus.
To measure the severity of fatigue and impact on the patient’s activities and lifestyle.
1. My motivation is lower when I am fatigued. 2. Exercise brings on my fatigue. 3. I am easily fatigued. 4. Fatigue interferes with my physical functioning. 5. Fatigue causes frequent problems for me. 6. My fatigue prevents sustained physical functioning. 7. Fatigue interferes with carrying out certain duties and responsibilities. 8. Fatigue is among my three most disabling symptoms. 9. Fatigue interferes with my work, family, or social life. Each of the nine items about fatigue from the FSS is scored on a Likert scale on which 7 is Strongly Agree and 1 is Strongly Disagree. The sum of the 9 items is then divided by 9 to obtain the average response value, hence the FSS ranges from 1 to 7. The higher the score, the greater the severity of fatigue and the negative effect on the person’s activities.
