This guideline covers the assessment and early management of fever with no obvious cause in children aged under 5. It aims to improve clinical assessment and help healthcare professionals diagnose serious illness among young children who present with fever in primary and secondary care.

To provide evidence-based recommendations for the assessment and initial management of fever in children aged under 5 years, focusing on use of the traffic light system (green, amber, red) for risk assessment.

This guideline is intended for healthcare professionals, parents and carers involved in assessing and caring for children under 5 years with fever.

This model reproduces NICE NG143 content for clinical decision-support and educational purposes. It must not be altered, abbreviated, or used to make autonomous diagnostic or management decisions that differ from NICE guidance.
